Ipoh February 2019 “Fireworks”

This evening we are celebrating the Chinese New Year in Ipoh with my wife's sisters. This is an important event in their calendar and as all are Christians it becomes more of a social event rather than one holding any spiritual significance. After our evening meal we sang worship songs and enjoyed each other's company. All too soon it became time for us to go our separate ways and head back to where we were staying. So we gathered together for prayers and to give thanks to the Lord for this evening. Within seconds of us signing off our prayers with an Amen the sound of a single firework banger could be heard. Well it is the Chinese New Year and they do like their fireworks but those are usually a set of firecrackers rather than a single bang so I thought “That's unusual”.
We left our host's house and 100m down the road passed a field in front of a row of houses. That must have been the “cue” for them to start their fireworks display and rockets flew off into the air. It was very impressive! I was not driving so could watch and enjoy the sight as we passed. I wondered how many people were witnessing the display? I know what it is like in the UK for these impromptu displays and expected dozens of people would be there for an event this size. Of course there would also be a bonfire but I don't see those here. I looked several times as we slowly drove past but I could see no one in that field and there were no lights in any the nearby houses. So I wondered “Apart from us who is watching this display and who set them off?”
