Kuala Lumpur December 2024 "A Sweet Smelling Aroma"
11/12/24 12:07
Today my wife and I are going to help her 90 year old Aunty with some bill paying and shopping. It is something we do somewhat reluctantly given the difficulties her Aunt has caused us in the past. I have a skill 'with people' in that I can usually sense how to get the best out of them, whether it is in the work environment or more often nowadays in a social setting. However my wife's Aunt is very difficult and tries my patience so much so that more often than not I will become frustrated with her after a couple of hours. My wife can 'survive' for about another hour. There are a lot of historic reasons/excuses why her behaviour is so difficult to deal with that I will not go into here. Suffice to say that my wife is about her last relative that will have anything to do with her which is a very sad situation.
It is a twenty minute drive to get to her house but before we set off Aunty will already be sitting outside waiting for our arrival and complaining that we are late (whether we are or not). However it is not with a heavy heart we set off to help her as we reflect that perhaps one day in our lives we will be relying on others to help us. So we get into the car, start the engine and my wife says "Can you smell the flowers?" I sniff the air and yes, there is a very pleasant floral fragrance and I look outside to see where it is coming from. That immediately raises a question because we are in an underground car park and there is no obvious source for that smell. I open the car window but the only smell coming from outside is that from our car's exhaust and most assuredly that is not sweet smelling!
As we set off my wife says "That is the Holy Spirit. He is coming with us today" and I smile. The smell is starting to fade and I surmise there must have been some scented flowers near our parking space. Anyway today's Aunty visit goes well, as far as I am concerned, we deal with the bills and get food for her and my patience easily survives this test. After we return home and park the car in its usual place I look for the source of the flower aroma. The smell has gone and none of the flowers growing nearby have any scent. I am left to wonder what was the source of that sweet scented aroma that wafted our way a few hours ago. Was it really the Holy Spirit as my wife suggested?
