Kuala Lumpur March 2024 "Limping On"

Two years ago I got off a train and damaged my knee. I should have waited for the passenger steps to be put in place before detraining but I was impatient. The gap between the train and platform was over 50cm and I was more than 10kg heavier than I am today, the result being that various pieces making up my knee joint decided they had had enough rough treatment and I was unable to walk for several months. Nowadays I take more care of my body and can usually walk without too much difficulty. Well on most days that is as just occasionally my knee will remind me of that injury and for a few hours 'encourage' me to wear a knee support. I thought this day was going to be another one of those but I was wrong.

I awoke to feel a pain in the back of my leg just above the knee joint. My usual problems occur on the front of my leg around the knee cap so this was both unusual and very painful. I limped out of bed put on the knee support bandage and assessed the situation. My knee compression bandage wasn't going to help because the pain was coming from the soft tissue at the bottom of my hamstrings and that bandage simply made matters worse. I decided to let nature take its course and wait for this to heal itself but this would be limiting my ability to walk on a day when walking was required. One of our friends was moving to live abroad and that meant we might not see her again so we had arranged a final visit to her home for today. My walking problem soon became evident long before we had left our home as I staggered around looking for something to support me with every step.

I had, most assuredly, been praying for my own healing. That morning I had prayed (several times) for the pain to cease and my knee to be restored back to normal but that hadn't yet happened. I might still have been praying for that tomorrow had we not have had two friends from South Africa staying with us. They are in their thirties and are visiting missionaries. The tales they had told us about their life in Indonesia were exciting; dealing with witchdoctors, sleeping in rough conditions and praying for the sick. They immediately wanted to pray for my leg and of course I said yes.

Praying for healing is straight forward. You place your hand on the affected region and declare healing for whatever is wrong IN JESUS NAME. The Bible is quite clear that, "You can ask for anything in my name and the Father will give it to you". Well, maybe not everything or I would be a lottery millionaire by now but if you have been reading some of my other blog entries you will appreciate that I have seen healing miracles occur to myself and others. My friend put his hand on my knee, prayed and asked me how whether the pain had eased. I gingerly tested it and it definitely felt less painful, nowhere near perfect but certainly an improvement. So he prayed again and more improvement but still some pain. I let him pray for me four times at which point I could walk round the room without significant pain or limping. That was much better and whilst not perfect I judged it to be good enough.

After a long lunch with our friends, when I stood up I realised the pain had come back! I was able to get back to our car and home for rest. That evening we had another event to go to, a meeting with friends from church and two people there wanted to pray for my knee to be healed. Now the pain I had when I awoke had eased but was still there. After a few minutes of prayer I tested my leg, the pain had gone! There was still some stiffness but I could walk without assistance back to our car at the end of the meeting. The following morning I awoke to a pain free day and over the next month my knee improved daily to almost what it was before I had injured it.
