Kuala Lumpur December 2022 “Give a little whistle”

Almost the first thing I do after getting up in the morning is to put the kettle on and make a cup of coffee. We have a gas hob and a kettle with a whistle. The “trick” when making my coffee is to let the kettle heat up until the whistle starts to make a sound and then switch the gas off and leave for a minute for the water to cool down. Then you remove the whistle and pour the water into the cup. Nothing unusual about that but there is a twist to today's story, the kettle has lost its whistle.

Now that is odd. When I take the whistle off the kettle it is placed by the gas hob and put back on the kettle after use. My wife noticed that it was missing this morning and that started a massive whistle hunt. After all, I can't have my coffee unless I can tell when the water is starting to boil. I expected the search to take five minutes. The kitchen is not large and the kettle never is never moved far from the gas hob but 'someone' has taken the whistle and hidden it from us. Well the two of us searched all the work surfaces, cupboards and draws but the whistle remained missing and so we headed off to church without me having my usual wake up coffee. I was starting to think it may have fallen in the trash bin and a new kettle would be required.

On our arrival back home we walked into the kitchen and within seconds noticed the whistle sitting on the gas hob, about where it should have been earlier today. Neither of us had put it there and the only other person in the house said that it was there when she had got up to have her breakfast. It is almost impossible for two of us not to have seen the whistle where it was found whilst we were searching. I have no idea why it went “missing” but as this is something odd so I thought it worth recording.
