Kuala Lumpur July 2024 "More car parking success"

My son and his wife have been visiting us and today is their last day in Malaysia before flying home. We planned to have breakfast at his favourite restaurant before going to church but the problem with that is it is a popular choice for many at that time of day and car parking is problematical. Guess it is also fair to say that trying to get four people ready to leave home at the same time is a bit like herding cats, quite difficult. So by the time we are al ready it is getting late and I am feeling quite concerned that we will not have time to enjoy the meal. My fears for that are further increased as we approach the restaurant only to see 100m of parked cars on both sides of the road. As we drove slowly past those cars we were on the lookout for anyone who might be thinking of moving their car so we could get their place but no one was going to help us today. We stopped outside and two of us got out to join the queue waiting for tables to become free in the restaurant whilst the others stayed in the car to see if there was an empty parking space further on. There were a few people ahead of us in the queue and whilst we were in a hurry there was nothing we could do but wait for others to finish their meal. About five minutes later we spotted our car come round the corner of the block of shops and start down the road where we were waiting. There were obviously no car parking places free in this area but that was about to change.

Right next to where we were standing a parked car started up and slowly reversed out of the bay. The next car on the road was ours and my son quickly drove into that empty place which was situated right outside the restaurant's front door. By the time they had got out of the car and joined us in the queue a table became free and we went in for our breakfast. Our good fortune didn't end there because our breakfasts were quickly served and we were able to enjoy that time together. Once our meals were finished we set off for church and it was my turn to drive the car. I looked at my watch and we had something like twenty minutes to do a journey that I reckoned would take twenty five so we would be a little late getting there. However the roads were much less busy than usual for a Sunday and the traffic lights a lot more friendly! We were hardly delayed and we got there just before the service started which was unusual and almost worth recording as a 'miracle' in its own right. However I'll settle for the car parking space becoming available just when we needed it as being worthy of note especially as that was going to happen again just a few days later.

A short car drive from where we live is a soya ice cream shop we like to visit as a treat. (I would like to go there every day but apparently that is not the definition of a treat). A few days after our son had gone home and we had cleaned up the house my wife rightly decided that this would be a treat day and we got in the car and headed off to the shop. Now parking here is also problematical (just as it is across most of KL) and as we drove into the road where the shop was all we could were cars on both sides of the road plus a few double parked. I expected us to find a place quite some distance away but as we slowly drove past the shop we got a shock because the parking bay right outside was empty! We looked closely, perhaps it was marked for private parking but no it was available for us and we took it. It is difficult to explain just how unusual this was. There must have been 200 cars parked (and double parked) around that empty bay which was exactly outside the front door of the shop we wanted to go to. We most assuredly enjoyed our ice cream that day!
